Today we deployed an update which adds extensive OpenID support to Shopify.

OpenID is a fantastic technology which will make life on the web a lot easier for everyone by removing the need to remember different login & password combinations for each site you want to authenticate yourself to.

Since Shopify is all about removing inconveniences we thought its a great fit and decided to make it available to the many thousand Shopify stores we host.

With the recent industry support for OpenID many people already have accounts without even knowing it. For example your AIM account can be used as an OpenID account. Just enter the address http://openid.aol.com/screenname :

To get started, head over to the accounts screen in your Shopify admin, edit your user account and click “Use OpenID”. Of course we also offer OpenID for invited staff members and during initial account creation.
